PAUL JONES – REGIONAL QUALITY MANAGER

Paul started working at Press Glass in 2009 as a Quality Engineer at our site in Swansea, where he worked until 2013. He then left to gain more experience in the Automotive industry where he stayed for four years as Quality Manager, adding valuable knowledge to his portfolio.

He returned to Press Glass, as Group QHSE manager in 2018, before transferring to the position of  site manager in Swansea, then finally, returning to Quality after being  promoted to Quality manager for Wales.

Whilst working at Press Glass he has gained a wealth of knowledge of our company processes and what our customers expect from our product. From this expectancy, he has been able to give feedback on this information to our process development team to help maintain a good quality product that exceeds our customers’ expectations. Paul said “Continuous improvement is always our goal. With the new factory on the horizon, we need to achieve a consistent quality performance, with an overall reject rate below 1%”

QUESTIONS FROM PRESS GLASS

  1. How can customers verify the quality of our glass?

Paul – We have a quality criteria document based on GGF (Glass and Glazing Federation), which is a standard we are required to work to. The basics are viewing the unit in natural daylight, at 90 degrees, looking through the unit not at it ,and ignoring the 50 mm exclusion zone around the perimeter. People’s personal perception can vary, so it is important to have a consistent standard.

  1. What do we do at Press Glass to be better than our competitors?

Paul – Press Glass have experience and knowledge of how to manufacture, produce and deliver a high-quality product at a good price, consistently. We have a ‘class’ leading product that our competitors find hard to match.

  1. What methods do we use in our glass inspection?

Paul – Glass is judged by our customers and the end user by eye, and our process follows this to aid continuity. Every pane of glass is inspected by our trained operators to ensure it exceeds our customer and end user expectations. We have tried robotic inspection on our lines previously, but human inspection is deemed to be the best.  No doubt in the future technology will change this viewpoint.

  1. What about life outside of Press Glass

Paul – I have four children, so my hobbies understandably follow theirs. My boys love football, and my youngest daughter loves to dance, so a lot of my time is spent spectating these hobbies, which I love. In addition to this I have an unhealthy addiction to motorcycles! Since I was 15 I have owned over 60 motorcycles! My current bike is a Honda VFR800 VTEC!
