QUESTIONS

  1. Have you always worked in the Sales Office?

Jo – Yes, but I’ve also been involved in production planning across all departments. I helped establish our site in LLantrisant, as Office Manager, focusing on production planning.

  1. What other roles have you taken on?

Jo – I’ve been involved in IT since the Swansea head office opened, playing a key role in our software transition to Lisec and outsourcing IT. I also helped with recruitment and production planning when we opened the Peterborough office, which led to my promotion to a group/national role. Since then, I’ve assisted with the Barnsley and Scotland offices, transitioning their IT systems and training staff.

  1. How did you develop your essential skills?

Jo – Early in my career, I worked with strong colleagues who helped me grow. Essential skills in my role include communication, teamwork, and time management. Recently, I’ve focused on an electronic ordering project, increasing our electronic order intake from 37% to 75% in 10 months, with a goal of 80% before moving to the new head office.

  1. How do you motivate and manage your team?

Jo – We motivate teams by setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and fostering a positive work environment. I empower my key managers, encouraging their growth. Most of my key team members have worked with me for over 10 years, with one by my side for 25 years.

  1. What do you look for when hiring new team members?

Jo – Hiring has changed a lot over the years. The most important factors for us now are cultural fit, motivation, and a strong work ethic. We provide all the necessary training on the job, so previous experience isn’t essential.

  1. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Jo – Outside of work, I don’t have much free time, but I do enjoy holidays, especially when I get to visit younger family members who now live abroad.
